The government is aware of the problems that VRT operators are facing
and has set up the necessary infrastructure to examine the difficulties
they are experiencing, but is reluctant to interfere with the number
of businesses operating since this goes against the principle of the
free market
EU confirms Malta will not be a net
contributor to EU budget
EU Budget Commissioner Michaele Schreyer confirmed that the EU Commisssion
is proposing to the EU Council that Malta, like other prospective EU
candidate countries, should definitely not become a net contributor
to the EU budget for the first few years, implying that Malta will not
lose out financially from EU accession
Maltas Stolper Report architect
dies at 89
Renowned economist Prof. Wolfgang F. Stolper, whose recommendations
saw the post-independence establishment of the Central Bank of Malta,
passed away last week at the age of 89 in Ann Arbor Michigan where he
lived and lectured.

Responding to last weeks Malta Financial and Business Times story
on the sale of Plaza Centres shares by Gee Five Ltd to Middle Sea Life
Assurance Ltd, Plaza Centres Chief Executive Julian Zammit confirmed
that both MSVs Mario C. Grech and Gee Fives Joe Gasan are
both to remain on as Plaza Centres directors.
go mobile WAP usage doubles
The usage of Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) by go mobile clients has
doubled over the past six weeks, with thousands of go mobile users benefiting
from the reduction on WAP tariffs that the wireless operator had announced
back in February. The offer, which has seen WAP tariffs being cut by
50 per cent all day long is still valid and is set to be extended further
